Nicole believed deeply in second chances — not only for rescue animals, but for the people who stepped up to help them. Through KARMA, her legacy continues in the hearts and hands of the next generation.

What is KARMA?

KARMA is a youth leadership and volunteer program designed to empower teens to become advocates for animal rescue in their community.

Through mentorship, volunteerism, advocacy, and fundraising, participants actively support the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of vulnerable animals in our care. This program gives young people the opportunity to turn their love for animals into meaningful action while building leadership skills, responsibility, and compassion.

KARMA is for youth who are ready to show up, give back, and make a real impact. No prior experience is required - just heart, commitment, and a willingness to learn.

KARMA was created in loving memory of Nicole, our Vice President at Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau, whose compassion, strength, and unwavering dedication to animals continue to inspire us every day. Nicole believed deeply in second chances - not only for rescue dogs and cats, but for the people who stepped up to help them.

KARMA exists to carry her legacy forward by empowering youth to become leaders in compassion. Through volunteerism, advocacy, and fundraising, teens will actively support the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of vulnerable animals in our community. We believe that when young people are given purpose, mentorship, and the opportunity to serve, they create lasting change.

Our mission is to turn grief into action, love into service, and kindness into impact. By educating and engaging the next generation, KARMA ensures that Nicole’s heart for rescue lives on - in every life saved, every dollar raised, and every act of selfless compassion.
