🐾Adoptable dog update alert🐾

Before we tell you about our amazing adoptable dogs, we wanted to talk about a decision made by the
Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau team.
We've decided to no longer post the “best guess” for breeds of our lovable rescue dogs.
Our rescue takes in a lot of dogs from northern communities that have been born and living on the land that has no discernible breed.  What we DO know about every dog that comes into our care is that they all deserve a warm, cozy pad, a full belly, and
are ALWAYS 100% adorable.
We always appreciate every single human for adopting rescue and not shopping and at the end of the day this much is true:
🐾🐾🐾Rescue is the best breed of them all.🐾🐾🐾

Thank you for understanding,
💛 the AHHRB team 💛

the Adoption Process:

Thinking of adding a new furry friend to your family? Adopting a dog from a rescue is one of the most amazing ways to support animals in need! We'll walk you through the process so you know what to expect!
When a dog comes into Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau they are matched with the best possible foster home for their known needs and personalities. We schedule a veterinary appointment to get a good picture of their health and requirements. Before being ready for adoption, all necessary medical & veterinary visits are completed. Your dog comes to you with:
  • full vaccine record
  • spay/ neuter
  • health information from the time we receive them
  • microchip

Steps to adoption

  1. Sit down with your family and decide what kind of dog would be the best fit.
Things to consider are personality traits, energy levels, and grooming requirements. Are you wanting a dog that is able to travel with you and explore the world? Or a couch potato that loves a good movie snuggle night?
  2. Have a look at your budget. Do you have the ability to support another animal and the potential of extra needs that could come up?
  3. Keeping an eye on the website, start reading our adoptable dog's profiles.
Take a look at your key list of requirements. We know they are all cute - but we want to make sure they are the right fit for you! We have dogs coming in all the time, so if you don't see your match yet, they might be here next week! Rescue can move quick.
  4. When you have a potential dream dog in mind, fill out the application form by clicking the button beside the dogs' profile.
  5. Your application will be reviewed within 3 days with an approval for the next step, or declined if we feel it isn't a match
  6. If approved, we will arrange for a phone call to go over your application and to coordinate a meet & greet with your chosen dog
  7. You'll head out to your meet & greet to see how you and your family get along with the dog. The foster family can answer questions about the process, the dogs' personality and will also watch to see if the dog responds well to you.
  8. Are they the one? Take 24 hours to go home, sleep on it and chat with your family to see if this is the right dog to adopt. Let the foster family know and they can help you complete the adoption if they also felt it was a fantastic match! You'll complete the paperwork and submit the adoption fee. Then you get to take your new family member home!
  9. Not the right dog, that's okay, let us know that, too! We may have another suggestion for you, or you can wait until another dog comes through our doors that captures your heart!

Adoption fees

Fees for adoption are as follows:
$550 for puppies
$500 for dogs aged 2-8 years old
$400 for dogs aged 9 years and older

ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: JAXX

Hi! I'm Jaxx, and I'm still looking for my pawrents. I am looking for a home that will give me their undivided attention and love.
About Me:
I love to PLAY!

I love to play and there is no such things as too many toys. I love to play fetch, tug of war, or even zoomies around the house
Did someone say CUDDLE?
Don't let my big frame fool you - I love a good snuggle.
Speaking of cuddles - I love a good NAP
If you work from home I will gladly sit at your feet and nap until you are done for the day.

I am good with kids over 10 and cats! I tend to get overstimulated with other doggos, so it's probably best it's just me.
My foster mom says I need to practice my interactions with other dogs and kids a bit more, sometimes I forget my manners because of my puppy brain; apparently, it can be taken the wrong way with my size though. I am currently working with a trainer and trying to learn as much as possible.
I would like to continue learning once I am adopted as I want to become the best boy possible.
I sometimes get overstimulated with other animals around and need a break.
Will you be my new pawrents?

MILLIE
Sex: Female
Age: Approx. 1 year old
Breed: House Hippo aka low rider
Hola! My name is Millie and I’m officially taking applications to find my forever best friend!
I am the QUEEN at my foster house - my foster brother bows down to meeeee. And when I say bow down, I just mean that I’ve made it clear that I am THAT chick doggie in the house. I think my ideal forever home would be a home where I’m the only doggo or one with another doggo that doesn’t mind me being the #girlboss.

That being said, I know my foster momma is the real girl boss of the house. I listen to her really well and am already kennel trained, house-trained and working on my leash manners (I just can’t help searching for squirrels on my walks). I know how to sit really well and take treats really gently. Have you seen how good of a snuggler I am?? I love to just snuggle in bed, on the couch, on the floor! Prepare to be cuddled and serenaded with my little snores!
Speaking of sleeping - I love it. I sleep all night in my crate and if you want to lay low all day, I’m down for that too! But I do get the zoomies in the yard and love to go on adventures. I love looking out the window in the car, but often fall asleep within 5 minutes. I’m pretty chill if you need me to be.
Do you know what I love more than sleeping? My toys! My foster mama calls me a “power chewer” but I’m proud to say that I’ve been the goodest girl and ONLY chew my toys. I leave furniture and shoes alone, but get ready to buy me some tough chew toys, as I am a stuffy murderer and they really don’t last long in my presence!
I am great with all people, but have not been around littles before. I think they are so so interesting when we walk by at the park, but again, I don’t know them! Kitties remind me of bunnies and squirrels, so likely a no go.
I really am the best girl, and I can’t wait to meet you! My friends at AHHRB say I have already had some humans ask about me and I’m hoping that means I’ll find my spot real fast! So apply TODAY!

KNOX
Sex: Male
Age: 8 months
Breed: Scooby Doo look alike ft. extra wrinkle face
Hi everybody! Knox Knox… (this is when you say who’s there?!) ME! I’m here and I’m Knox and I’m ready to find my forever spot that I can keep all my besties aka my stuffies. I carry them everywhere and will show you them all ok?
My foster family describes me as a total goofball in the best way! Is there a bad way? I wouldn’t know because I’m the best way! I am a fan of pretty much most things… hoomans small and large, other doggy friends, I’m polite to the kitty friends.
Sometimes I still act my puppy age in a big doggy body so perhaps the tiny tiny hoomans may take that the wrong way.

I’m super smart and very eager to learn; I have learnt so far sit, lay down, and shake a paw BUT I know when I listen to what you are asking me to do I get yum yum treats so I’m eager to learn more and hear what a good boy I am
I am great in my crate and enjoy my relaxing time in there! But I loooooove a good walk after the relaxing time too so don’t forget that please!
Do you think I could be your new bestest boy? I hope I get to meet my people soon
Love, Knox

Breed: BDG (black dog gang)
My name is Journey and I'm a little house hippo

I quite like going into my crate when you go out but please don't leave me for too long..I will miss you!
I sit pretty for treats, which are one of my favorites..and I walk like a superstar on my leash.
I love to give kisses to people of all sizes, and check out bugs, flowers and grass but I'm not a digger.
I love my fruit and veg..my FM says that's why my teefs are so beautiful cucumbers and watermelon are my favorites
I enjoy car rides and checking out all the new sniffs at the park and I get along well with my uncle Jett and auntie Selena..to them I'm just another member of the BDG (black dog gang) but I'm keeping my snow capped paws crossed that you'll take me home, love me forever and let me start my own BDG with you.

Tilly
Age: 5 months
Sex: Female
Breed: Pitty Mix
Hiiiii hoomans! My name is Tilly and if you’re looking for an expert stuffy killer, look no further KIDDING (not really). When I’m not busy kiiii-uddling as many stuffies as I can get my paws on I enjoy playing fetch, running in my backyard, and playing with my foster fuzzy sibling.
As you can tell I have a BIG puppy spirit that is happy to share with kids, dogs, cats (that can handle a little higher energy pup) and my hoomans.
Sometimes I’m a little nervous of strangers when I first meet them because I was an orphan found all alone and everything was kind of scary to begin with in my life.
But I warm up real quick once I realize they just want to give me love!
How can I blame them for being obsessed with me?
If that all wasn’t enough for you to recognize I’m a super star … I’m house trained; I let my pawrents know I need to go do my business by sitting by the door, crate trained, and am starting my leash training on the right paw and will pick it up fast once I get some more practice ! I sit and know my manners well when receiving my meal and; I never start to eat until my pawrents say “yours”.

SABINE
Breed: Shepherd Mix
Age: Maybe 5 or 6?
Sex: Female
Hello! I'm Sabine. You may notice something different about me. It's true, I'm very beautiful.
My foster parents say I'm the most beautiful tripawd - whatever that is. Living in a house is new for me but it's great! I lived by myself for a while but after chilling out with my family, this is much better. I have a cool furry foster brother that I love but I'm not a fan of strange dogs. I'm sure I'll learn to like them eventually.
I'm always eager to go for walks but a while ago I was hurt pretty bad and ever since then I can't seem to go as far as I used to so I just go on frequent, but shorter walks.
I have to so that I can keep an eye on the neighborhood rabbits. They are a big attraction for me!
I'm not a nervous girl but I really like when things are calm at home. If we have kids come visit and I like to sniff them and get a gentle belly rub, but I'm not sure if I want to live with them forever! Cats either. Too much work. Do you know how exhausting it would be chasing a cat around all the time?! No thanks!
Do you think I can be part of your family? I would love to find my forever home and continue to become my best self

MILO
Age: 1 year old
Sex: Male
Breed: Lab X
Who let Milo out? Woof woof woof. Well really, I may woof at you a couple times when I meet you because I get a tiny bit scared of new people. If you just give me some yum yum treats though, I will be your new best buddy. And I loooove my humans and am really just a chill dude.
I also LOVE other dog friends and kids! They are so much fun and make me wag my tail all day long
Wanna know some more of my favourite things? Okay cool I’ll tell ya; fetch, outdoor time, and cuddle time after the outdoor time.
I am super smart and know a ton of basic commands! My recall is pretty dang great and I’m highly treat motivated so I’m excited to keep learning!
I currently hang in a room with my bed gated from the rest of the house when I am alone. I do well there as I know that is my spot when my people are gone!!! My favourite part is when the humans come back… with treats especially!

It is my time to find my forever home the family who will love me for me and let me give them all the love! And let me tell ya, I have a lot of love to give! Pleaaaaase apply to adopt me; you won’t regret it!
Application form

JADE
Age: 3 year old
Sex: Female
Breed: A fun loving Virgo who is sweet as candy
Who wants an absolute dream dog? Because that is what my foster home says I am, a dream dog! I’m that sweet sweet age of 3. What does this mean? Well I’ve matured past my puppy years, but still am young enough to tag along with any adventure, and have the opportunity to be your best friend for plenty of years to come!
Are you looking for a family dog? I am great with kids! Even at one point lived with a teeny tiny human.
You don’t have any tiny humans but another fur child? That is cool too; I have gotten along great with other dogs and am happy to share my humans with a sibling!
But I do love my humans, I stay close and always will have my eye on you. It’s just I love you lots. I am not an escape artist at all, why would I want to escape love, food, and a cozy home?
I looooove training. I am highly treat motivated, so if you wanted a dog that you can perfect… I’m pretty perfect already but learning is so much fun for me we can keep working together I’m mellow in the house but as soon as we step outside, I’m ready for adventure!
I have been untested with cats but like most pups, I do like to chase rabbits and squirrels and birds so my foster family thinks I may have that chase with cats too
I am ready to find my forever home! My rescue peeps say adoptions have been VERY slow which is sad because I just want to find my perfect spot asap, but I’m keeping all my paws crossed that I’m not going to be waiting long and my humans will see me and apply for me very very quickly!
