🐾Adoptable dog update alert🐾
Before we tell you about our amazing adoptable dogs, we wanted to talk about a decision made by the
Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau team.
We've decided to no longer post the “best guess” for breeds of our lovable rescue dogs.
Our rescue takes in a lot of dogs from northern communities that have been born and living on the land that has no discernible breed. What we DO know about every dog that comes into our care is that they all deserve a warm, cozy pad, a full belly, and
are ALWAYS 100% adorable.
We always appreciate every single human for adopting rescue and not shopping and at the end of the day this much is true:
🐾🐾🐾Rescue is the best breed of them all.🐾🐾🐾
Thank you for understanding,
💛 the AHHRB team 💛

When a dog comes into Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau they are matched with the best possible foster home for their known needs and personalities. We schedule a veterinary appointment to get a good picture of their health and requirements. Before being ready for adoption, all necessary medical & veterinary visits are completed. Your dog comes to you with:
- full vaccine record
- spay/ neuter
- health information from the time we receive them
- microchip
Steps to adoption
- Sit down with your family and decide what kind of dog would be the best fit.
Things to consider are personality traits, energy levels, and grooming requirements. Are you wanting a dog that is able to travel with you and explore the world? Or a couch potato that loves a good movie snuggle night? - Have a look at your budget. Do you have the ability to support another animal and the potential of extra needs that could come up?
- Keeping an eye on the website, start reading our adoptable dog's profiles.
Take a look at your key list of requirements. We know they are all cute - but we want to make sure they are the right fit for you! We have dogs coming in all the time, so if you don't see your match yet, they might be here next week! Rescue can move quick. - When you have a potential dream dog in mind, fill out the application form by clicking the button beside the dogs' profile.
- Your application will be reviewed within 3 days with an approval for the next step, or declined if we feel it isn't a match
- If approved, we will arrange for a phone call to go over your application and to coordinate a meet & greet with your chosen dog
- You'll head out to your meet & greet to see how you and your family get along with the dog. The foster family can answer questions about the process, the dogs' personality and will also watch to see if the dog responds well to you.
- Are they the one? Take 24 hours to go home, sleep on it and chat with your family to see if this is the right dog to adopt. Let the foster family know and they can help you complete the adoption if they also felt it was a fantastic match! You'll complete the paperwork and submit the adoption fee. Then you get to take your new family member home!
- Not the right dog, that's okay, let us know that, too! We may have another suggestion for you, or you can wait until another dog comes through our doors that captures your heart!
Adoption fees
Fees for adoption are as follows:
$550 for puppies
$500 for dogs aged 2-8 years old
$400 for dogs aged 9 years and older

ADOPTION SPOTLIGHT: VINNY
|
Vinny
Sex: Male Age: Unknown Breed: Special boy We would like to introduce you to our newest adoptable- and let us tell ya; he is an extra special one. Vinny came from us terrified and very untrusting of people; and extremely spooked from a long plane ride from the Nunavut. There are times that we receive dogs from situations we can’t wrap our minds around- and Vinny is no exception. The “home” he was in was not in the best environment. As you can see in his before picture- he came to us broken. To be blunt- the human race broke him. |
Vinny has been in care for 9 months now. This was extremely important to give him this time in care as his amazingly patient foster family has let Vinny heal, feel safe, and learn to trust humans again.
Men are the scariest to him but we know he warms up to them because he is now a full time cuddle bug on the couch with his foster dad.
We are confident that a permanent home for Vinny is out there. We know someone will fall in love with those sweet eyes and wrinkly face and be willing to continue to give him the time and understanding he needs to learn that he is going to have the happiest life for here on out.
If you are interested in meeting Vinny- we would love to introduce you, click the link below.
Only the best for our boy
We will never let him feel like his before picture ever again.

Hi! I'm Raffi!
Age: 11 months Sex: Female Breed: Goofy Girllll Hi friends! Raffi here! I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and ate lots of Turkey. Want to know something funny…My foster family calls me a Turkey because they say I’m a big silly goofy girl! I thought I was a doggo? Weird. Anyways, want to know a little about me? Let me tell you! I loveeee playing. Playing tug of war, playing fetch, playing with my furry foster siblings, and even playing in the pool! Any type of playing is my favourite. I’m real good at sharing my toys, sharing is caring you know. I also really like treats and am very food motivated. |
This is great because I’m super smart so I can learn all the tricks with some treats! I already know how to sit, stay, down, shake a paw, other paw, and am fully potty trained!
I don’t love my kennel very much, but my foster mom is actively working on that with me! I’m a pretty strong girl, and can pull on leash if I see another dog or rabbit. We’re working on that, but I’ll need you to continue to work on these things with me! I don’t really know my size, so while I’m friendly with humans, older kids might be best so I don’t accidently knock them over. I would loveeee to have a sibling in my forever home since I love to play so much!

NISHA
Age: Approx 4.5 months Sex: Female Breed: Smart Cookie Nisha here! And I am excited to tell you all about myself so you can adopt me! Don’t let me being sure you have some good treats before I come say hi to you fool you; I’m gonna come say hi eventually regardless because otherwise I would be left out- and I can’t have that! I love attention and treats, and making my people happy. So getting me working, because I’m ready for a job! Besides me being a human pleaser I also love to hang with my doggy friends. |
f they wanna play with me then I’m gonna be puuuuuumped! I promise I’m great at sharing the love. Who knows; maybe I’ll have my own foster puppy with my forever family one day and I can return the favour and show them the ropes
I sleep wonderful in my crate throughout the night and if you need to leave me to go to work- I prefer to go in my crate too (even though I might try to convince you to stay with some whines). I am house trained, and great on a leash
My foster momma describes me like this “She loves everyone. She is so sweet and affectionate. She loves exploring and napping and meeting new people/dogs. She would do well in a home with a yard. She absolutely loves to be able to run around cause she is very isn’t a stranger to puppy zoomies ”

ARNOLD
Sex: Male Age: Approx 3 month old Breed: Big feet, you know what the means It's almost Valentine's day; WIll you be mine?! Hi, My name is Arnold! My foster mom calls me Arnie for short, and often makes Schwarzenegger jokes in my direction (I just ignore those). More about me! I love long walks in the ravine, tossing toys around a room, and snacks! I'm looking for my life partner in crime. The icing to my oreo, the cheese to my cracker, the HOT to my tamale! Maybe you're picking up what I'm putting down? Speaking of which, let's play fetch!! I like to hang out and play games equally as much as I love to give hugs, get scratches around my ears, and snuggle. |
I grew these super fun candy cane shaped eyebrows that everyone seems to love, maybe you will love them too? I have some tiny dog roommates that are pretty funny. I'd play with them everyday if they just wanted to play with me too! So if you have a friend for me, I would be excited for that! I'm a non-smoker, vaccinated and an all around healthy boy. Will you be my valentine?

DONTE
Age: Approx 3 months Sex: Male Breed: Friendly Giant Hello my name is Donte! And I am looking for me people who are gonna love me forever! Here is my report card from my foster family; it has everything you need to know about what a good boy I am : Donte is a gentle old soul. He has a calm personality which has been a delight to bring to social events. Donte is super relaxed during handling and petting. He adapts well in new situations. |
Donte enjoys outside play with others or even on his own, he enjoys the cooler weather as he has a thick soft coat.
His favourite part to be rubbed is EVERYWHERE (lol) especially on his belly, his sweet spot is under the chin in his neck. He usually always smiles with his teeth to show you how happy this makes him and if that alone doesn’t make you fall in love with him…. I’m not sure what will. He enjoys playing with his stuffies and teething toys.
His foster family describes his activity level as medium; Donte, will be a great addition to a home with regular stimulation. He enjoys walks as well as inside activities. He is wonderful with dog, cats, kids and both men and women
He is such a smarty pants- pretty much completely house trained; the odd accidents but not because he didn’t let the humans know he is great in his crate; he will cry for a second but don’t let that fool you… he will be passed out in about 5 min and totally content. And he is wonderful on a leash (a harness works best for him).
Donte Has been an absolute pleasure to foster. He was exposed to children of all ages. He travelled with our family wherever we went. Over our time together he has learnt to sit , shake paw, and lay down. Donte was around small breeds as well as large and always on his best behaviour..Not to mention he was living with our 6 year old cat who has shown him how to be patient and gentle. He will require reminding of this. Throughout our journey not only has Donte lived with a boston terrier and cat he was introduced to a busy household. I would recommend Donte to enroll in puppy classes as he thrives off learning.
Last but not least Donte almost lost his eye. He went through 2 hard surgeries in order to save it. So to us that makes him even more special. He will have little scarring which allows him to look badass.

Felix
Sex: Male Age: 3 months Breed: Cool as a cucumber Are you looking for a real cool cucumber ? Do cool cucumbers and puppies mix together? Well trust me; this one does. I enjoy a play here and there… don’t get me wrong! But I also like to sit back and enjoy the view. If you are looking for me, I’m more than likely hanging in my crate, in fact it’s one of my favourite activities. That along with people watching, walks, and naps! You know what is not one of my favourite activities? Going to the vet. Just for your info sake . I have been the perfect little gentleman to kids, other doggies, and even cats! I know, I know. I'm real polite. |
I’ve been raised well! I am doing amazing with my house training; you just gotta keep your eye on me! I promise I’ll let you know when I gotta go!
I am a pro in my crate if you didn’t get that from above and my leash skills are sub par but c‘mon, no one is perfect!
Even though I’m more of a quiet puppy, I promise I have lots of love to give! So maybe you want to apply to meet me and adopt me? Can’t wait and see you soon!

RALPH
Age: 3 months Sex: Male Breed: Snuggle bug Hi my name is adorable Ralph! Ok so I put the adorable in myself, but you really don’t agree? I am a sweet and cuddly boy that just loves to be with my humans! I have learnt I have a voice- and I use it . I like to have the last word but also make sure it is known when I need to go outside to pee for instance… which has made potty training me a breeze! Once I’m done doing my business- I’ll take a few extra moments to have a good play in the yard. Because that is the funnest thing ever… playing! |
Then after I’m done playing, I’ll come find you to nap okay?
I have been wonderful with cats (I just wanna play with them) and other doggies, and even kids! But sometimes I need a reminder to not be so nippy when I get real excited. It’s not mean! I’m just playing!
I’m still learning lots with walking on a leash and learning to love my crate but my big personality is also one that is eager to please and I am so excited to keep working on being the best boy with my forever family!
I can promise you lots of goofiness, laughs, smiles and fun while we go through life together! So apply to adopt me today!

shi(RAZZ)
Age: 2 Years Old Sex: Female Breed: Life of the party rescue special Razz is a spunky, life lovin’, toy destroying, cuddle bug. She loves spending her days playing with her furry doggy best friend. They will go for hours playing, then snuggle up with one another on the floor. Be careful mentioning the word “walk” because that gets her riled up and ready to go. She would walk all day if you’d let her, making her the best adventure partner. She’s a lady who knows what she wants and is sassy enough to tell you! |
When she needs to go out to potty she will stomp her little feet and give a small, low, “AWOOO” and will continue that until you finally take her out, you’ll never have to guess when she has to go though . She loves other dogs and is obsessed with our house cat. However, the cat is not a fan of dogs, so unfortunately Razz hasn’t had the opportunity to make friends with her. We believe she is gentle with cats and just wants all the friends she can make! Razz is crate trained, is pretty good on a leash but a head halter would be recommended as sometimes I get too excited and is quite the strong girl, it’ll make everyone’s lives easier!
Razz deserves the best home. She is young, energetic, yet chill, sweet and sassy, kind and playful. She would love a forever home with another fur baby to be her best friend. She walks so much better on a leash now, and with another dog by her side. She loves her morning snuggles. Once we all wake up, the dogs are invited into our bed for morning snuggs! She’d be amazing for any family who will take her on their trips to see the world. She just wants to be your best friend and play buddy.

RIPP
Age: 1 year old Sex: Male Breed: Smooshy face Meet the newest pup on the block! This is Rip. Despite how living indoors and being a family dog is "new" to Rip, he is just excelling at it! He is a loyal, smart and loving boy. He's great with kiddos and loves being near his people. This guy also loves his crate and doesn't make a peep at night and if you leave during the day! This sweet boy is learning how to be an indoor dog. This includes: discovering the squeekers in toys, learning that he gets treats for being SUCH a good boi, and learning that he will always be let back inside the house. |
Along with the fact that he doesn’t have to worry that he will not get another meal; so he doesn’t have to resource guard his bowl. Rip loves going inside the house and loves going to work with his foster humans! He's taken up the role of "greeter" at work
Rip has come to really like the resident doggies in the house after a slow introduction. Again he is learning he doesn’t always have to have his guard up- so just takes a little patience Now that he's had a taste of the good life we know he is going to fit right into some lucky humans family. Could this be you?

KIMMI
Age: 4.5 months Sex: Female Breed: friggin’ adorable I’m a cutie doo doo doo doo and adoptable doo doo doo doo. Hi guys! My name is Kimi- and sometimes people call puppies little land sharks but I’m a super smart girl who loves to chew on toys rather than humans. Promise! As long as you provide the lots of toys! I am a very confident puppy who loves to play with my dog friends and small human friends. And I am a natural on walks and LOVE THEM. Also weird like- but good for you… warm baths are real nice. So I always will smell fresh as a rose! |
Like I said; I’m really smart and am crate trained, house trained and am building my trick repertoire as we speak. So let’s keep learning together.
I don’t have many dislikes but one I know for sure is I get so excited for my meals; and I have to be patient and practice my manners and wait for the “go” to start eating. This is REALLY HARD. But manners are important… so I guess I’ll keep trying to do my best!
Anyways- if you are reading this thinking I’m too good to be true. You are right. But wrong. Because I am the goodest so apply to adopt me into your family now!

GUS
Sex: Male Age: Approx. 3 years old Breed: House Hippo Boi Are you looking for a relaxed, happy, and snuggly boy but a bouncy, zoomy, and playful dude all at once? Well my name is Gus and I know how to do it all! I am the chillest guy inside my home but if you have a big backyard for me to run and play in with you; I love a good zoom and transform into a puppy at heart again. I’m kinda a super special fella. You may notice when you meet me, I can hypnotize you with my salsa dancing. This is because I have something called ‘Wobbler Syndrome’. |
But it means just that- my back legs can wobble from time to time but to be honest; I hardly notice and my vet says that I can live a happy, healthy life without having to do a thing medically! Just make sure you buy me a fancy harness so that I don’t have a ton of pressure on my neck (my friends at the rescue here can explain more upon meet and greets).
If you are an active person and wanna do some of my doggy exercises with me- that is awesome because it helps my back legs stay strong strong strong.
I currently live in a home with no other dogs and I think I would prefer it this way. This isn’t to say I won’t ever be friends with a dog because I have been before but it will take slow, proper intros preferably done with a trainer initially.
How smart am I? SUPER smarty. I am house trained and crate trained. I know my basic obedience but would love for someone to keep working on perfecting my manners and becoming the most confident guy in new situations.
Overall I’m a snuggly guy who can’t wait to find a quiet forever home to nap and play in and give and get aaaaall the love. Think you want to adopt me?

ROSA-LYNN
Sex: Female Age: Approx. 1.5 years old Breed: Sweetie Pie Cutie Meet Rosa-Lynn. This sweet girl is about 1.5 years old. She is an unknown mixed breed with beautiful eyes, an adorable underbite, and a uniquely marked tail. She is spayed, up to date on her vaccines and has been dewormed, meaning she's ready to find her forever home! Yay! Since Rosa-Lynn is still young she would do best with an energetic family to keep up with her, she loves walks and running around with other dogs, but when needed she is able to entertain herself with chew toys or by throwing her stuffies around and catching them in the air. |
She thinks it is the best time. So just make sure you have lots of stuffies around
On cold days she loves to cuddle up close to her person and is very content to just chill on the couch or her bed while you watch movies. If you let her be a lap dog she will be more than happy but does listen to boundaries when they are set. But again- she would love to mention she swears she can fit well on laps
Though we can't say if she is good around cats or kids (since she has not been exposed to them while with her foster home) she has done great around the 2 resident dogs (one female, one male) and with adults whether male or female as well.
And can we talk about the brains this girl has? She has made amazing strides when it comes to crate training, and I would say practically perfected house training. She does well on a leash, a little hyper at first from the excitement of being out but then calms down and walks beautifully one’s she gets her initial sillies out!
This little lady deserves a loving home with all the pets, hugs, and kisses. Can this be you?

JADE
Sex: Female Age: 3 years old Breed: Black Beauty I am just easing out of my teens but still young enough to tag along for an adventure. I would love to find a human to go out for a run/walk/car ride. I’m great with kids but really appreciate those that will throw my tennis balls for me. My foster mom says I should play for a baseball team as I jump up and catch some amazing throws. I easily coexist with my foster’s other dogs (medium size) and enjoy playing with them once we have had proper introductions. |
The other day I got out of the yard when my foster mom called me I ran to her because hey, that’s where the love is! I am seriously treat motivated and willing to learn new tricks or just get reacquainted with the old tricks. In the yard I am watchful and occasionally bark when the neighbour dogs bark or someone is walking by the yard but I don’t carry on about it. A yard with a wood fence would be ideal for me. I feel safe with it. While out walking in the neighbourhood I love to sniff and sometimes I find edible treasures yum. But if there is another dog too close, I get a little freaked out. My foster mom holds onto me until the threat has past or we turn around and find a new route. When I see a rabbit or squirrel I want to chase it! But mom says no. My favourite walks are enrichment walks. My mom takes me to places I won’t likely see other dogs and puts me on a long leash and lets me sniff to my hearts content. The smells are heavenly. The other day I caught 3 grasshoppers. I didn’t eat them though, yuck! Although my foster mom is pretty loving, I am looking for a permanent relationship.
I am not expecting a perfect person, just someone to love and maybe who owns an automatic ball thrower - haha kidding

I sleep & nap in my kennel, and can let you know when I need to go out to potty. The cats have trained me, too! I like them, they like me, and I’ve figured out how to play with them. I can take a hint when they’re done playing with me. See what I mean about being a rockstar? I love to play with other dogs, humans big & small are fun to play with too! I met some ‘toddlers’ and was such a good boy they said. |

LILY
Age: 9 months Sex: Female Am I a Dog or a Turkey? Heheh I’m a doggy silly! But my foster mam says I have a very unique voice when I’m acting like a Turkey or am trying to talk to you. It makes them smile and giggle! I really am just a happy to lucky girl- I love to play with my foster siblings and my sissy, I love to chew and roll around with my toys, and I’m a great listener and eager to please my humans. Humans are really the best too. I love, love. I am good at giving it, I am amazing at receiving it too. I’m an excellent snuggler after a good play. Which is a great quality. |
I am wonderful with other dogs, cats, and kids too! Bonus!
We all are allowed to have our dislikes though right? Well I dislike bedtime. I try to skip naps too so I need to be crated to encourage me to rest and I’ll let you know my dislike for a minute but then I realize I enjoy the soft blankets and the snoozes gives me energy to play more the next day! I am also house trained completely and great on leash! So I can’t wait to go on walks with you!
I’m a wonderful girl- and I’m told I’m allowed to brag about this so my forever humans apply to adopt me quickly! So hurry up and fill out a form already! I can’t wait to be a part of your life forever!

STEVIE
Sex: Female Age: 6 months Breed: Brown eyed girl Hi, I’m Stevie. I’m the sweetest little girl you’ll ever meet! I’m so laid back and easy! I’m brave and curious about all the things. I’ve never been away from my brother, but I’m ready to shine I’m a very curious puppy, and I’ll go anywhere with you. Happy to just hang out at home, or on an adventure. I’m great at walking with my harness, but don’t love just the leash on the collar, but I’m sure I’d get used to it if I had to. I also love going in the car. I get the zoomies first thing in the morning. But I’m also still very “puppy clumsy”, and trip over myself all the time, but I’m always okay; and sometimes just do it to make my foster family giggle. |
I’m so smart. I love to learn and discover new things. I’m super vocal, and funny enough, just found my bark. I just like to talk a lot. My foster mom says I got that from my human sisters… I’m a good sleeper. I will fall asleep anywhere. Pretty much a speed bump once I’m asleep. I love water. My water bowl makes the greatest sound when I drink from it, it makes me dance. I am house trained and will sit as long as I can at the door until you let me out. I’m really good at waiting. I don’t need a friend to play with, my favorite toy is a bouncy ball. You should see that thing go! And stairs! Oh that ball loves going down the stairs! I could play that game all day! We should meet, I’m sure we will get along. Just be ready to melt into my beautiful brown eyes.

FREDDY
Sex: Male Age: 6 months Breed: Snuggle bug Hi, I’m Freddy. I’m so laid back and easy, but tell me you love me and I’ll serenade you! I’m a little hesitant at first, but once we get to know each other, I will snuggle like you wouldn’t believe! I’ve never been away from my sister, and she makes me brave, so please be patient with me! If you have another resident furry friend for me- that would be awesome. I’m a very curious puppy, and I’ll go anywhere with you. Happy to just hang out at home, or on an adventure. I also love to eat. I like treats, but my dry food is my favorite, not the wet stuff, that’s too gooey for me |
I’m so good at bedtime, my foster mom doesn’t even need to tell me, I’m usually in my bed before she ask me to get in; beauty sleep is important ya know!
My human siblings get to sit on the couch, and I really like sitting with them. I don’t get into any trouble there, I know it’s special. I am so smart, not to toot my own horn but I always figure out the puppy puzzles first. I love those games. I love to go for walks, but I’m not a very fast walker, too many things to see and sniff. I have young neighbours (grade one) that come and walk with me every day and even they are too fast for me, so maybe a family with younger children would be more my speed. I’m ready to find my forever home, if you think you’d like to come play and see how smart I am, come on over!
