Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau team.
We've decided to no longer post the “best guess” for breeds of our lovable rescue dogs.
Our rescue takes in a lot of dogs from northern communities that have been born and living on the land that has no discernible breed. What we DO know about every dog that comes into our care is that they all deserve a warm, cozy pad, a full belly, and
are ALWAYS 100% adorable.
We always appreciate every single human for adopting rescue and not shopping and at the end of the day this much is true:

the Adoption Process:
Thinking of adding a new furry friend to your family? Adopting a dog from a rescue is one of the most amazing ways to support animals in need! We'll walk you through the process so you know what to expect!
When a dog comes into Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau they are matched with the best possible foster home for their known needs and personalities.
We schedule a veterinary appointment to get a good picture of their health and requirements. Before being ready for adoption, all necessary medical & veterinary visits are completed. Your dog comes to you with:

We schedule a veterinary appointment to get a good picture of their health and requirements. Before being ready for adoption, all necessary medical & veterinary visits are completed. Your dog comes to you with:
- full vaccine record
- spay/ neuter
- health information from the time we receive them
- microchip
Steps to adoption
- Sit down with your family and decide what kind of dog would be the best fit.Things to consider are personality traits, energy levels, and grooming requirements. Are you wanting a dog that is able to travel with you and explore the world? Or a couch potato that loves a good movie snuggle night?
- Have a look at your budget. Do you have the ability to support another animal and the potential of extra needs that could come up?
- Keeping an eye on the website, start reading our adoptable dog's profiles.
Take a look at your key list of requirements. We know they are all cute - but we want to make sure they are the right fit for you! We have dogs coming in all the time, so if you don't see your match yet, they might be here next week! Rescue can move quick. - When you have a potential dream dog in mind, fill out the application form below!
- Your application will be reviewed within 3 days with an approval for the next step, or declined if we feel it isn't a match
- If approved, we will arrange for a phone call to go over your application and to coordinate a meet & greet with your chosen dog
- You'll head out to your meet & greet to see how you and your family get along with the dog. The foster family can answer questions about the process, the dogs' personality and will also watch to see if the dog responds well to you.
- Are they the one? Take 24 hours to go home, sleep on it and chat with your family to see if this is the right dog to adopt. Let the foster family know and they can help you complete the adoption if they also felt it was a fantastic match! You'll complete the paperwork and submit the adoption fee. Then you get to take your new family member home!
- Not the right dog, that's okay, let us know that, too! We may have another suggestion for you, or you can wait until another dog comes through our doors that captures your heart!
Adoption fees
Fees for adoption are as follows:
$650 for puppies
$650 for small breed dogs (under 30lbs)
$500 for dogs aged 2-8 years old
$400 for dogs aged 9 years and older

Barkley

Abbey

Abbey is the definition of a Velcro dog—once she bonds with you, she’ll be your loyal little shadow, following you from room to room like your very own fluffy assistant (don’t worry… she supervises everything very seriously). Whether you’re cooking, cleaning, or just relaxing, Abbey will be right there, gently reminding you that she deserves pets… and maybe a few more pets… okay, definitely more pets. Name: Jazz Birthday: June 2024 Sex: Female Breed: Brindle Blanket Baby Weight: 76 lbs If comfort had a mascot, it would absolutely be Jazz. This brindle beauty is basically a weighted blanket with legs, a built-in cuddle setting, and a permanent “must be touching my humans” policy. Personal space? Never heard of her. If you sit down, Jazz assumes you are inviting her directly into your lap — all 76 pounds of her. |
Jazz is the queen of cozy and curiosity. Every grocery bag? Needs inspection. Every new item in the house? Must be sniffed immediately. Every person or squirrel spotted on a walk? She will lovingly stare at it until it disappears into the horizon like she’s in a dramatic romance movie. Her little detective nose is always working overtime.

Chad
Birthday: April 2021 Sex: Male Breed: Deluxe Snuggler™ Weight: 96 lbs Chad is basically what would happen if someone turned a weighted blanket into a dog. This gentle boy has mastered the art of relaxing and takes his career as a Professional Napper very seriously. Barking dogs? Screaming kids? Chaos in the house? Chad says, “Sounds like a great time for another snooze.” |
This lovable lug wants nothing more than to be wherever his people are — preferably directly in the middle of the floor where everyone has to carefully step over him like a furry speed bump. He’s calm, patient, unbelievably gentle, and so laid back it’s honestly impressive. Chad has only barked twice the entire time in foster care, and both occasions were probably very important announcements about snack time.
He absolutely lives for treats, belly rubs, and quality lounging sessions. He’s a perfect gentleman on leash walks, knows how to shake a paw like the polite prince he is, and has the sweetest soul. While he gets along wonderfully with dogs, kids, and cats, he may occasionally remind a rude cat that he is, in fact, the king of the living room. (To be fair, foster mom says the cat usually starts it.)
Chad would thrive in a home where he has company most of the time. He doesn’t love being alone, he’d much rather spend his day supervising your activities while horizontally sprawled across the floor nearby. Joe Dirt
Birthday: April 30, 2024 Sex: Male Breed: Slug-osaurous Weight: 60lbs Once upon a time, in a cozy foster home not so far away, lived a legendary little creature known as Joe the Slug-osaurous. Part cuddle bug, part adventure buddy, and part professional snack enthusiast, Joe is on a quest to find his forever kingdom (preferably one with a soft couch and snacks within reach). Joe’s signature move? The “Slug Slide” — gracefully gliding across grass, snow, or dirt with his belly low to the ground, soaking in all the textures. It’s both adorable and guaranteed to make you laugh. |
When he’s not on a grand outdoor expedition, Joe transforms into a certified cuddle champion. His favorite place in the whole world? Francine is equal parts athlete, genius, and cuddle expert. She's incredibly smart, eager to learn, and will do just about anything for a tasty treat. Whether she's mastering tricks, solving food puzzles, chasing her flirt pole, or proudly carrying around a Kong, she's happiest when her brain and body are busy. |
When the workday is done, Francine clocks in for her favorite shift: being your shadow.
