🐾Adoptable Puppy update alert🐾

Before we tell you about our amazing adoptable puppies, we wanted to talk about a decision made by the
Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau team.
We've decided to no longer post the “best guess” for breeds of our lovable rescue dogs.
Our rescue takes in a lot of dogs from northern communities that have been born and living on the land that has no discernible breed.  What we DO know about every dog that comes into our care is that they all deserve a warm, cozy pad, a full belly, and
are ALWAYS 100% adorable.
We always appreciate every single human for adopting rescue and not shopping and at the end of the day this much is true:
🐾🐾🐾Rescue is the best breed of them all.🐾🐾🐾

Thank you for understanding,
💛 the AHHRB team 💛

the Adoption Process:

Thinking of adding a new furry friend to your family? Adopting a dog from a rescue is one of the most amazing ways to support animals in need! We'll walk you through the process so you know what to expect!
When a dog comes into Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau they are matched with the best possible foster home for their known needs and personalities.
We schedule a veterinary appointment to get a good picture of their health and requirements. Before being ready for adoption, all necessary medical & veterinary visits are completed. Your dog comes to you with:
  • full vaccine record
  • spay/ neuter
  • health information from the time we receive them
  • microchip

Steps to adoption

  1. Sit down with your family and decide what kind of dog would be the best fit.Things to consider are personality traits, energy levels, and grooming requirements. Are you wanting a dog that is able to travel with you and explore the world? Or a couch potato that loves a good movie snuggle night?
  2. Have a look at your budget. Do you have the ability to support another animal and the potential of extra needs that could come up?
  3. Keeping an eye on the website, start reading our adoptable dog's profiles.
Take a look at your key list of requirements. We know they are all cute - but we want to make sure they are the right fit for you! We have dogs coming in all the time, so if you don't see your match yet, they might be here next week! Rescue can move quick.
  4. When you have a potential dream dog in mind, fill out the application form by clicking the button beside the dogs' profile.
  5. Your application will be reviewed within 3 days with an approval for the next step, or declined if we feel it isn't a match
  6. If approved, we will arrange for a phone call to go over your application and to coordinate a meet & greet with your chosen dog
  7. You'll head out to your meet & greet to see how you and your family get along with the dog. The foster family can answer questions about the process, the dogs' personality and will also watch to see if the dog responds well to you.
  8. Are they the one? Take 24 hours to go home, sleep on it and chat with your family to see if this is the right dog to adopt. Let the foster family know and they can help you complete the adoption if they also felt it was a fantastic match! You'll complete the paperwork and submit the adoption fee. Then you get to take your new family member home!
  9. Not the right dog, that's okay, let us know that, too! We may have another suggestion for you, or you can wait until another dog comes through our doors that captures your heart!

Fees for adoption are as follows:
$650 for puppies
$650 for small breed dogs (under 30lbs)

Jazz

Name: Jazz
Birthday: June 2024
Sex: Female
Breed: Snuggle Tiger
Weight: 80 lbs

Introducing Jazz – The Queen of Cuddles and Squeaky Toys! If love had a sound, it would be the soft thump of Jazz’s tail every time you walk into the room! This sweet, stripy beauty is a big-hearted girl who’s equal parts gentle snuggle bug and goofy playmate.
Jazz’s favorite things in life? YOU (of course), food, and squeaky toys! She’s a very food-motivated girl who politely waits in her crate for the “OK” before diving into her meal — manners and all. She may be a quiet girl (barking isn’t really her jam), but when it’s playtime, she’ll happily empty the whole toy bin to make sure every single squeaker gets some attention.

In the mornings, she’s full of puppy pep and ready to take on the world, but by evening she’s curled up in bed, belly full and heart happy. She loves going for walks — though rabbits are very exciting (we’re working on that).

Her beautiful tiger-like markings and soulful eyes make her truly one of a kind, but it’s her big heart that steals the show. She’s happiest when she’s near her people, soaking up cuddles and giving gentle nudges for pets.

Likes: Walks, food, belly rubs, squeaky toys, bouncing balls, car rides, and being near her favorite humans
Dislikes: The dark, and when her foster sister gets pets before she does (fair enough!).

Good with Dogs? Yes
Good with Cats? Yes
Good with Kids? Yes; older kids may be best due to her size and enthusiasm.

Willa

Name: Willa
Birthday: October 4, 2024
Sex: Female
Breed: Treasure, Treats & all things Sweet
Weight: 50 lbs

Meet Willa — the Quiet Little Treasure Collector Willa is the kind of pup who tiptoes into your heart instead of crashing through the door. She’s a gentle, thoughtful girl who observes the world with curious eyes and a soft spirit. Her favorite thing? Curling up with a plush toy for a cozy nap, holding it like a tiny treasure she’s been saving just for that moment.
This sweet girl takes treats with incredible care. She doesn’t bark like other dogs, but instead uses the tiniest, quietest little “boofs” to politely let you know when she needs to go outside. It’s impossibly cute. Willa believes consent is important — she decides when and where pets are allowed, and she’ll make it very clear when you’ve earned that privilege. Start with gentle scratches along her cheeks or behind her ears, and once she trusts you, she may invite you to pet her head and muzzle too. Pets along her body are a no-thank-you for now, but she’s learning every day that safe humans exist.

She didn’t have the easiest beginning in life, but despite that, Willa is incredibly kind and gentle. Even when she’s scared or unsure, she shows no reactivity — just a quiet hope that the world will keep being kind to her. Willa loves being outside, especially off-leash in a safe space where she can explore at her own pace. She would thrive in a calm home with another confident dog and a big yard to wander. Leashes are still scary for her, but with patience, training, and trust, she’ll continue to blossom.

One of her cutest quirks? She’s a collector. Hats, gloves, shoes — if it fits, it’s going in her crate. She proudly hoards her treasures and keeps them all in her cozy little den like a dragon guarding gold (but way cuter).

Likes: Sniffing everything, soft toys for snuggling, snuffle balls and treat puzzles, playing with other dogs, collecting treasures
Dislikes: Baths, sudden approaches, leashes (for now)

Good with Dogs? Yes , Willa needs another dog in her forever home
Good with Cats? Unknown
Good with Kids? Yes, older kids who will respect her boundaries

Oats

Birthday: July 19, 2025
Sex: Male
Breed: Brainy Biscuit
Weight: 50 lbs

Meet Oats — your warm, cozy bowl of puppy happiness!
Oats is the kind of pup that makes mornings brighter and hearts fuller. This sweet, smart boy looooves being with his people and is happiest when he’s included in the fun. He’s still a baby at heart and is working on building his confidence as he learns that the world is actually a pretty awesome place.

Oats is a fetch fan, a puzzle-solving genius, and a professional snuggler. He plays all day with his foster sister and absolutely thrives with canine companionship. Walks are a work in progress — he prefers calm, quiet sniffy strolls and has made HUGE strides in confidence already. New people and dogs can be a little overwhelming at first, so patience and encouragement go a long way with this sensitive, thoughtful boy.

Training-wise? This pup is a straight-A student. In just one month he’s learned sit, down, middle, “park it” (place), and crate — and he’s currently working on touch and recall. He happily runs into his crate, sleeps through the night, and is doing great… though he’s still practicing being okay when his people leave the house. Progress is happening, and he’s trying his very best.

If you’re looking for a loyal, clever, big-hearted pup who just needs a little patience and a lot of love… Oats might be your perfect match. 💛

Likes: Fetch, snuggles & being near his people, playing with dog friends, sniff walks, puzzle toys & chew toys
Dislikes: Being alone for long periods, busy walks with lots of surprises

Good with Dogs? Yes, Oats would do best with another dog in his forever home
Good with Cats? Unknown
Good with Kids? Yes — older kids (10+)

Cash

Name: Cash
Birthday: November 7, 2025
Sex: Male
Breed: Tiny Treasure Hunter
Weight: 13 lbs. Will be medium-small when full grown

Meet Cash — The Tiny Treasure with a Heart of Gold 💰

If curiosity had a mascot, it would probably be Cash. This little guy believes the world is one big adventure waiting to be explored — and he’s ready to investigate every corner, every toy, and every new friend he can find.
Cash is a smart, social, and playful pup who loves meeting people and happily greets visitors at the door like they’re long-lost friends. Despite being a young pup, he’s already showing off his brains, learning “sit” in just one training session! With a curious mind like his, this little guy is going to love continuing to learn new tricks and skills.

Cash loves playing with his dog friends, digging the squeakers out of toys like a professional treasure hunter, eating (always a top priority), and soaking up lots of pets. When he’s not busy exploring, Cash is perfectly happy switching into snuggle mode. He enjoys cuddles and has a sweet habit of resting on your feet, making sure you never forget he’s nearby. Whether you’re in the mood to play or relax, Cash is happy to match your vibe.

Cash is still just a baby and learning about the world. Like many puppies, he prefers when he can keep an eye on his humans, but he’s already improving as he learns routines and confidence.

With his happy personality, clever brain, and playful spirit, Cash is ready to bring a whole lot of joy (and maybe a little puppy mischief) to his future family.

Likes: Eating, playing with dog friends, squeaky toys, pets, cuddles, exploring
Dislikes: Being crated during the day when he can’t see his humans (but improving!)

Good with dogs? Yes
Good with cats? Unknown but young enough to learn!
Good with kids? Yes

Lexi
Birthday: January 31, 2025
Sex: Female
Breed: Honor Roll Adventure Pup
Weight: 50 lbs

If there were report cards for dogs, Lexi would be at the top of the class. She’s smart, eager to learn, and always ready to show off her latest trick — she also knows how to balance school and recess with a good dose of playful silliness.
Lexi is the perfect mix of affectionate, independent, calm, and goofy. One minute she’s curled up relaxing beside you, and the next she’s spinning in excitement or proudly demonstrating her impressive list of tricks. This girl absolutely loves learning new things and thrives when her brain gets a workout. Training sessions? Yes please. Puzzle toys? Even better.

She’s already mastered an extensive list of skills including sit, lie down, place, spin, recall, hand touch, and find it. Lexi is the kind of dog who would happily sign up for every class if doggy university existed. When she’s not studying her next trick, Lexi enjoys walks, chewing on her favorite toys, enrichment games, and spending time with her people. She also enjoys hanging out and playing with dog friends. If living with another dog, she does best in a structured home committed to managing resources and continuing to work on positive sharing habits.

Lexi would love an active home that enjoys walks (or runs!), training games, and adventures with friends. Someone who enjoys engaging with their dog and continuing her learning journey would be the perfect match for this bright young pup. With her brains, personality, and playful charm, Lexi is ready to graduate straight into the role of someone’s very best friend. 💛

Likes: Walks, training games, treat toys, chewing, attention, playing with dog friends
Dislikes: Sharing food, small animals

Good with dogs? Yes (with dogs that respect her space)
Good with cats? No
Good with kids? 16+ only

Vera

Birthday: Approx. January 2025
Sex: Female
Breed: Cuddle Cloud Adventure Mix
Weight: 55 lbs

Vera is a sweet, affectionate girl who just wants to be close to her people. She’s incredibly eager to please and will happily follow you from room to room like your loyal shadow. If you’re looking for a dog that truly wants to be part of everything you do, Vera is your girl.
Vera is the perfect mix of cuddly and active—always up for a walk, run, or adventure, then ready to curl up beside you after. This sweet girl came in with an injured tail, so she has a cute little piece missing off the end—but it’s all healed and doesn’t stop her from wagging it enthusiastically! She loves chewing, exploring, and being involved in daily life. With her energy and willingness to learn, she would make an amazing running partner or agility dog.

Vera is quiet when people come to the door, and is still working hard on her leash manners as she can pull when excited (like the possibility of meeting new people and pooches!). She’s smart and learning quickly—she already knows “sit” and is working on “stay”!

She’s house trained, crate trained, and thrives with routine. Vera really wants to do the right thing and will do best in a home that continues her training and gives her both exercise and lots of love.

Likes: Walks, chewing toys, cuddles, being near her people
Dislikes: Loud noises
Good with dogs? Yes, with proper introductions and dogs that match her energy
Good with cats? Unknown
Good with kids? Yes

💖 Vera would love an active, loving home where she can keep learning, burn some energy, and then snuggle up at the end of the day.
