🐾Adoptable Puppy update alert🐾

Before we tell you about our amazing adoptable puppies, we wanted to talk about a decision made by the
Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau team.
We've decided to no longer post the “best guess” for breeds of our lovable rescue dogs.
Our rescue takes in a lot of dogs from northern communities that have been born and living on the land that has no discernible breed.  What we DO know about every dog that comes into our care is that they all deserve a warm, cozy pad, a full belly, and
are ALWAYS 100% adorable.
We always appreciate every single human for adopting rescue and not shopping and at the end of the day this much is true:
🐾🐾🐾Rescue is the best breed of them all.🐾🐾🐾

Thank you for understanding,
💛 the AHHRB team 💛

the Adoption Process:

Thinking of adding a new furry friend to your family? Adopting a dog from a rescue is one of the most amazing ways to support animals in need! We'll walk you through the process so you know what to expect!
When a dog comes into Alberta Homeward Hound Rescue Bureau they are matched with the best possible foster home for their known needs and personalities.
We schedule a veterinary appointment to get a good picture of their health and requirements. Before being ready for adoption, all necessary medical & veterinary visits are completed. Your dog comes to you with:
  • full vaccine record
  • spay/ neuter
  • health information from the time we receive them
  • microchip

Steps to adoption

  1. Sit down with your family and decide what kind of dog would be the best fit.Things to consider are personality traits, energy levels, and grooming requirements. Are you wanting a dog that is able to travel with you and explore the world? Or a couch potato that loves a good movie snuggle night?
  2. Have a look at your budget. Do you have the ability to support another animal and the potential of extra needs that could come up?
  3. Keeping an eye on the website, start reading our adoptable dog's profiles.
Take a look at your key list of requirements. We know they are all cute - but we want to make sure they are the right fit for you! We have dogs coming in all the time, so if you don't see your match yet, they might be here next week! Rescue can move quick.
  4. When you have a potential dream dog in mind, fill out the application form by clicking the button beside the dogs' profile.
  5. Your application will be reviewed within 3 days with an approval for the next step, or declined if we feel it isn't a match
  6. If approved, we will arrange for a phone call to go over your application and to coordinate a meet & greet with your chosen dog
  7. You'll head out to your meet & greet to see how you and your family get along with the dog. The foster family can answer questions about the process, the dogs' personality and will also watch to see if the dog responds well to you.
  8. Are they the one? Take 24 hours to go home, sleep on it and chat with your family to see if this is the right dog to adopt. Let the foster family know and they can help you complete the adoption if they also felt it was a fantastic match! You'll complete the paperwork and submit the adoption fee. Then you get to take your new family member home!
  9. Not the right dog, that's okay, let us know that, too! We may have another suggestion for you, or you can wait until another dog comes through our doors that captures your heart!

Adoption fees

Fees for adoption are as follows:
$550 for puppies
$500 for dogs aged 2-8 years old

Tia

Breed: Supermodel
Born: November 2023
Gender: Female
Weight: 45 lbs

Step aside, runway models—there’s a new star in town, and her name is Tia! With my striking good looks, vibrant personality, and tons of potential, I’m here to win your heart and become the best doggy companion you've ever had. I may be young, but I’m already making strides to be the perfect addition to your family.
I’m a quick learner—just call me "Smarty Pants!" I’m eager to continue my training and would absolutely thrive with a family who can keep up with my bright mind and playful energy. I’m house trained, crate trained at night (although I’d much prefer my own penned-off area during the day), and well on my way to mastering more tricks. Right now, I’m working on not being reactive when I see other dogs on walks, but don't worry I am a work in progress and with your help I'll be runway-ready in no time!
If you’re looking for a sweet, loving, and intelligent companion who’s ready to learn and grow with you, I’m your girl! Let’s create a life full of adventure, laughter, and love. I can’t wait to meet my forever family—are you ready to bring a supermodel into your life? 💖

Likes:
• I’m a champion at destroying so-called “indestructible” dog toys. If it squeaks, it’s game over!
• Fetch is my sport of choice
• I love to bask in the sun—nothing feels better than soaking up those warm rays.
• Did I mention I’m a people dog? I absolutely adore my humans and can’t wait to be by your side, sharing all the love I have to give.

Dislikes:
• Other dogs on walks can be a bit overwhelming for me. I get super excited and still need to work on controlling my enthusiasm. But don't worry, I'm determined to get it right!
• I’m not a fan of being left alone for too long. I’m a social butterfly, and I just want to be with my people, making every moment special!
Good with Dogs? Yes! I love playing with my foster sister.
Good with Cats? Unknown - I haven’t had the chance to meet one yet.
Good with Kids? Absolutely! I adore my 4-year-old foster friend and we have so much fun together.

Elvira
Breed: Toy Loving Zoomie Queen
Birthday: April 2024
Gender: Female
Weight: 55 lbs

Meet Elvira, our dazzling bundle of joy and energy!

Elvira is a playful, spunky, toy-obsessed sweetheart who lives for fun and LOVES to run. She’s all-in for tug-of-war, fetch marathons, zoomie sessions in the yard, and any activity that involves you. Elvira is the definition of a “let’s do everything together” kind of gal—she’s happiest by your side, with her favorite toy in your hand (the one she picked for you, of course).
She's smart as a whip too! Elvira knows all her basic commands—sit, down, stay, and gentle. Her recall is amazing thanks to whistle training, and she even puts herself to bed at 8:30 PM sharp (yes, really!). She thrives with structure, plenty of activity, and lots of love from her people and canine friends.

While she’s quite social, Elvira’s not into sharing her toys with other dogs (they’re her treasures, okay?). She'd do best with a confident, dog-savvy pup who respects her space—or as your one and only furry queen.

Elvira is the total package: beautiful, brilliant, and bursting with love. Whether she’s chasing a ball, snuggling after a busy day, or proudly showing off her training skills, she brings joy and spark wherever she goes. She’s ready to find her forever family—could that be you?

Likes: Toys (ALL of them), running outside, tug, fetch, licky mats, brushing, training time, her people
Dislikes: Sharing toys, being alone, thunderstorms, poultry food (it upsets her belly)

Good with dogs? Yes, with proper introductions
Good with cats? No
Good with kids? Older kids only (she's still learning not to jump)

Jimmy
Birthday: January 2025
Sex: Male
Breed: Blockbuster CuddleHound
Weight: 79 lbs

🌟 Meet Jimmy — the TV-Binge Bestie You Never Knew You Needed! 🌟
Jimmy is a soft-hearted, wide-eyed gentle soul wrapped in the body of a big goofball. He believes life is best lived with a snack in one hand and a remote in the other — because yes, he loves watching TV. His favorite so far? Lilo & Stitch! His least favorite TV personality? Emma from Selling Sunset — he has THOUGHTS.

Jimmy loves playing with his doggy friends, whether it's running, wrestling, or just engaging in doggy hijinks, he lights up when he's with a canine friend. This Golden Globe nominated good-boy is smart, eager to learn, and so proud of himself when he nails a new skill. His trick list is extensive — sit, down, touch, heel, middle, middle down, middle walk, 2Up, leave it, drop it — he’s got the whole talent show covered.

Under his playful wild-child energy beats the sweetest heart. Jimmy is a busy boy who loves having tasks, adventures, and enrichment, but he’s working hard on his couch-potato era. New things can feel big and a bit scary, but he’s gaining confidence every day with structure and encouragement. A calming chest massage helps him reset when he gets overwhelmed, and he absolutely melts into it like warm butter. He would thrive in a calmer home where his excitement can be supported.

Likes: TV time, snacks (all of them), playing with other dogs, learning new tricks, sniffy walks, structured routine, chest massages, nature shows for dogs, & included in everything
Dislikes: Being bored, too much excitement too fast, emotional reality TV villains named Emma
Good with dogs? Yes! He loves a playful friend
Good with cats? Unknown
Good with kids? Yes — older kids preferred due to size & enthusiasm

Jimmy isn’t just looking for a home — he’s looking for his forever person to share snacks, snuggles, and season finales with. Could that be you!? 🐾 🍿

Stuart
Birthday: August 2, 2024
Sex: Male
Breed: Golden Adventurer
Weight: 45 lbs

Meet Camp Counselor Stu!

Welcome to Camp Happy Tails, where the sunshine is endless, the peanut butter flows freely, and head counselor Stuart is here to make sure everyone is having a tail-wagging good time!
Stuart (but friends call him Stu!) is a joyful, social pup who thinks every person is a potential new best friend. He’s the type of guy who blends right into the crowd — whether it’s a group of excited kids, a family picnic, or a game of tug-of-war in the yard. Need a playmate? A hiking buddy? A peanut butter enthusiast? Stu's your guy.

This golden boy is affectionate, goofy, and loves a good routine. He settled into his foster home like a pro and thrives with structure and snuggles. Throw a stick and he’s off — just don’t expect it back! His idea of fetch is more like a silly game of keep-away (because, honestly, that’s way more fun).

Camp activities include:
  • Sniffy walks (bonus points for long grass)
  • Chewing the toughest toys he can find
  • Splish-splashing and dancing in the hose spray
  • Zoomies in the hallway
  • Ice cube crunching and peanut butter taste-testing

While Stu is crate trained, he’s not a big fan of being away from his people — he thrives on companionship and will stick by your side like marshmallow to s’more. He’s good with other dogs, especially if they’re his size and share his love for playtime. He’s working hard on his leash manners and making great progress, but still needs reminders to channel that puppy energy sometimes!

Ready to welcome the happiest camper into your home? Stu’s packed and ready for his forever adventure — sleeping bag optional, belly rubs required.

Likes: Tug of war, hard chew toys, ice cubes, routines, people, peanut butter jars, dogs his size, being your shadow.
Dislikes: Being left alone, being left in the car, soft toys (they don’t last long!), crate time (but he’ll do it).

Good with dogs? Yes – especially friendly, playful ones his size!
Good with cats? Unknown
Good with kids? Yes – he loves kids and the chaos doesn’t faze him one bit!

Lou (aka Lou Girl)
Birthday: November 2023
Sex: Female
Breed: Heart throb Honey
Weight: 74 lb

Once upon a tail wag... there was a bright and beautiful girl named Lou. With one ear up, one ear down, and a magical little split tongue (fully healed and perfectly functional!), Lou is a walking fairytale. Her eyes? Full of stories. Her heart? Full of loyalty. And her head tilts? Absolutely award-winning.
Lou is a nature-loving adventurer who enjoys long walks on forest trails, riding shotgun in the truck, and wrestling squeaky toys into submission. She invents her own games, offers gentle paw presents, and gives the sweetest nose nudges when she’s ready for love (which is often). She's brave, curious, and oh-so-clever — already mastering her basics like sit, stay, and down.

She loves belly rubs, rope tugs, chew bones and stealing a bite of your apple if you're not careful. She’s not one for fast friendships with other pups - she prefers calm intros and proper greetings - friendships are always better when they start on the right paw.

Lou is searching for a forever family who will help her keep learning, love her big loyal heart, and maybe share a few apples along the way. Let Lou be your loyal hiking buddy, your road trip pal, and your forever best girl

Likes: Trail walks, squeaky toys, belly rubs, riding in trucks, tug-of-war, apples (shared, of course)
Dislikes: Rushed intros with new dogs, being left out of snack time, dogs who walk by and don’t say hello

Good with dogs? Yes, with calm, proper intros
Good with cats? Unknown
Good with kids? Older kids — absolutely!

Brenda
Name: Brenda
Birthday: February 2024
Sex: Female
Breed: Snuggle Sweetheart
Weight: 43 lbs (with a few more pounds to gain for her ideal cuddle shape!)

Meet Brenda, the cozy-hearted sweetheart who’s basically a living teddy bear with a wagging tail! This gentle girl has mastered the art of relaxation — she believes every couch, bed, and fluffy dog bed exists purely for her comfort (and honestly, she’s probably right).

Brenda is a total lovebug who thrives on attention and gentle pets. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow who will follow you from room to room just to be near you, she’s your girl. She adores her foster family, especially when it’s time for snuggles, nap time, or snack time — her three favorite parts of the day!

She’s a calm, kind soul who enjoys squeaky toys, treats, and meeting new friends (as long as they come with cuddles attached). While she’s not too sure about car rides or cats — those mysterious furry creatures are a bit too spooky — she’s otherwise the picture of sweetness and charm.

Brenda is ready to find her forever family — one that appreciates lazy mornings, cozy movie nights, and a best friend who’ll love you with her whole heart.

Likes: Cuddles, naps, squeaky toys, treats, and soft blankets
Dislikes: Cats, long car rides, and being away from her people

Good with Dogs? Yes
Good with Cats? No thank you!
Good with Kids? Yes

Dean

Name: Dean
Birthday: September 2024
Sex: Male
Breed: Professional cuddler, part goofball
Weight: 40 lbs

Meet Dean, the ultimate lovebug with a heart as big as his zoomies! This handsome boy is equal parts adventure buddy and professional lap warmer. Dean believes personal space is a myth — if you have a lap, it’s his lap. Whether it’s humans, dogs, or even the grumpy resident cat, Dean’s motto is simple: “Everyone’s a friend!”
Dean’s favorite things include snuggling (obviously), chasing toys, and engaging in energetic zoom sessions in the yard. He also loves wrestling with his 8-year-old foster brother and doing his best to win over the cat — one boop at a time. He’s got endless energy for playtime, but when it’s cuddle o’clock, he’s all in for the snuggle life. Dean’s not a huge fan of being in his kennel (he’ll go in without complaint though). He’s also a bit of a door-dasher, not because he’s naughty, but because he’s just so excited to explore the big world that’s finally his to enjoy.

Dean is ready to fill your home with love, laughter, and a whole lot of cuddles. If you’re looking for a loyal shadow and adventure companion all in one — Dean’s your guy!

Likes: Snuggles, toys, zoomies, fetch, making new friends, and more snuggles.
Dislikes: Being left out of the fun (or the couch).

Good with Dogs? Yes!
Good with Cats? Yes!
Good with Kids? Absolutely!

Jazz

Name: Jazz
Birthday: June 2024
Sex: Female
Breed: Snuggle Tiger
Weight: 80 lbs

Introducing Jazz – The Queen of Cuddles and Squeaky Toys! If love had a sound, it would be the soft thump of Jazz’s tail every time you walk into the room! This sweet, stripy beauty is a big-hearted girl who’s equal parts gentle snuggle bug and goofy playmate.
Jazz’s favorite things in life? YOU (of course), food, and squeaky toys! She’s a very food-motivated girl who politely waits in her crate for the “OK” before diving into her meal — manners and all. She may be a quiet girl (barking isn’t really her jam), but when it’s playtime, she’ll happily empty the whole toy bin to make sure every single squeaker gets some attention.

In the mornings, she’s full of puppy pep and ready to take on the world, but by evening she’s curled up in bed, belly full and heart happy. She loves going for walks — though rabbits are very exciting (we’re working on that).

Her beautiful tiger-like markings and soulful eyes make her truly one of a kind, but it’s her big heart that steals the show. She’s happiest when she’s near her people, soaking up cuddles and giving gentle nudges for pets.

Likes: Walks, food, belly rubs, squeaky toys, bouncing balls, car rides, and being near her favorite humans

Dislikes: The dark, and when her foster sister gets pets before she does (fair enough!).

Good with Dogs? Yes
Good with Cats? Yes
Good with Kids? Yes; older kids may be best due to her size and enthusiasm.

Dahlia
Birthday: August 16, 2025
Sex: Female
Breed: Cuddle-Blossom
Weight: 21 lbs, will be medium-large when full grown

🌺 ✨ Meet Dahlia, a cheerful little flower bursting with love and charm! ✨ 🌼

This little cuddle-blossom greets each day, and every new friend, with pure joy. Dahlia adores meeting people and other pets, and she’s happiest when surrounded by her favorite humans. She’s a professional cuddler and loves curling up with her foster brother for lazy afternoon naps.
Playful and full of personality, Dahlia’s favorite hobbies include wrestling, eating, and showing off her growing list of tricks. She already knows sit, paw, lay down, and high five, and she’s eager to learn more. With her bright little mind and food motivation, she’s a quick study who loves to make you proud.

Dahlia is as sweet as a spring flower in bloom, just make sure to keep an eye on her at dinner time, or she might “help” with everyone’s bowl. She’s crate trained, enjoys short strolls with friends, and would blossom  in a home either as a solo gal or with another furry buddy to play with and learn from.

Likes: Wrestling, snacks, learning tricks, cuddles, short walks, cozy naps
Dislikes: Long walks without pals, the rain

Good with dogs? Absolutely.
Good with cats? Not tested, but likely with proper introductions
Good with kids? Yes

Magnolia
Birthday: August 15, 2025
Sex: Female
Breed: Velvet Petal Meadow Pup
Weight: 25 lbs (will be medium–large when grown)

Meet Magnolia 🌼The sweetest little bloom ready to find her forever garden.
Like the flower she’s named after, Magnolia is gentle, graceful, and quietly full of personality. She’s a soft, sweet girl who loves to follow her person around like a little shadow. She happily accepts affection, hugs, kisses, and scratches are always welcome, but she’s also an independent little flower who enjoys stretching out on the floor or at the end of the couch rather than snuggling on top of you.

Magnolia is full of adorable quirks: she makes funny little groaning sounds when she stretches or relaxes, and her curiosity has no limits. She is smart, determined, confident, and not easily spooked — loud noises and new environments don’t faze her one bit. Training is her favorite thing (next to treats and meal times), and she’s wonderfully quick to pick up new skills. She does like to “talk” during training with some enthusiastic barks and whines, but that’s just her personality and excitement showing.

Her ideal day includes puzzle toys, learning something new, playing with her foster brother, and then being invited up on the bed after a good night in the kennel — that moment is pure joy for her!

Magnolia is mostly crate trained, new to walks, and doing well with house training. She knows sit, down, outside, kennel, touch, and mat, and she’s working on stay and leave it.

She is still learning food manners and may give a warning grumble if another animal approaches her bowl — but with structure and separate feedings, she does wonderfully and is already improving.
Magnolia dislikes being left alone for long periods but with continuous training and positive crate association we have no doubt she will learn to love her alone time. She also gets carsick, so slow introductions to car rides will help her adjust.

Likes: Puzzles, training games, treats, meal times, playing with her foster brother, exploring new things, morning bed snuggles after kennel time
Dislikes: Car rides (gets carsick), being left alone for too long, daytime kenneling, sharing her food or water bowl during mealtimes
Good with dogs? Yes
Good with cats? Mostly untested, has met one and was curious and friendly
Good with kids? Yes

Magnolia is ready to grow her roots in a forever home — one filled with patience, love, and a family who will help her blossom into everything she’s meant to be. 🌺

Winston
Birthday: September 14, 2025
Sex: Male
Breed: Royal Fluffshire ooddle doodle
Weight: destined to be a medium-sized majesty

Hear ye, hear ye! 👑
Introducing Prince Winston of Fluffshire, the tiniest monarch with the biggest heart and a royal agenda packed with adventure, snacks, and snuggles.
Winston may be small now, but make no mistake, this young prince is busy, bright, curious, and endlessly playful. He likes to keep tabs on everything happening in his kingdom (aka your home), making sure no toy is left unplayed with and no activity goes uninspected.

Prince Winston is brave, sweet, and full of heart. He loves other dogs, adores kids, is fine with cats, and would happily have a canine companion to romp around with — though it’s not required. This little prince got a playful spirit and a hint of mischief… there’s always a glimmer of “I have a plan” in his eye. He’s smart enough to sit, knows his name, and comes running when he hears the shake of the treat jar.

Winston sleeps soundly in his royal chambers (crate), waking once overnight for a quick royal pee break. Our young monarch will thrive with an active, patient family who can guide him as he grows into the majestic, well-mannered king he’s destined to be.
